DCH Foundation Team
The Dayton Children's Hospital Foundation team is working together this GivingTuesday to raise funds to support our Inpatient Mental Health Activity Therapy program. Activity Therapy is a a powerful tool for helping kids learn healthy ways to deal with stress and cope with trauma.
With kids ranging in age from 9 to 17 and a variety of mental health concerns, therapists assess each patient to determine their specific needs and offer them choices for therapy programs. Movement is a healthy way to regain that sense of control. You can choose your movements; you can even choose how you breathe!
Group therapy can include yoga, music, art, game play, team building, cooking, and much more. The approach is guided by experiential learning — “learning by doing” — a unique approach not available at other pediatric behavioral health centers in the region.
Every child in the 24-bed unit participates in activity therapy with the goal of going home with long-term coping skills. Your gift will help provide these kids with items to help in their therapy, including books, journals, art supplies, or music instruments - items essential to their long-term mental health!
Thanks to our behavioral health team and your caring contributions, kids who come to Dayton Children’s in crisis are leaving with a toolkit to thrive.
